ABOUT THE OBJECT

Singapore’s Peranakan community is made up mostly of descendants of Chinese traders who settled in the busy ports of Penang and Singapore in the 19th century. Sometimes referred to as Straits Eclectic architecture, facades are often decorated with bright colourful tiles, intricate carvings and motifs. Like the diversity of their culture, iconic tiles of Peranakan architecture are now fused onto a dish to hold your coins and other trinkets!

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Launched during the National Day 2015, this collection is a result of the collaboration between Supermama, STUCK, & Meykrs . The collection encapsulates Singapore narratives in various minute objects. Using the Singapore culture and lifestyle as a context to design, Red Republic provides a fresh perspective to what defines a souvenir.
