Shorea Curtisii Necklace
by Melissa Tan
The pendant is casted like a Shorea seed with wings light and delicate to suit its mode of dispersal by the wind. Shorea Curtisii is one of Singapore’s oldest species of trees protected in Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. These trees grow to a towering height and allow their wing-like seeds to catch the wind with ease, enabling them to fly over a large distance before taking root at a new location and sprouting into a new tree. It is hoped that the bearer of the pendant will have dreams like the Shorea Curtisii , embrace the winds of life, take flight to greater heights.
